Scottish Parliament Building
The Scottish Parliament Building is the home of the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood, within the UNESCO World Heritage Site in central Edinburgh. Construction of the building commenced in June 1999 and the Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) held their first debate in the new building on 7 September 2004. The formal opening by Queen Elizabeth took place on 9 October 2004. |
St Giles' Cathedral
A prominent feature of the Edinburgh skyline, St Giles' Cathedral or the High Kirk of Edinburgh is at the midpoint of the Royal Mile.
The church has been one of Edinburgh's religious focal points for approximately 900 years. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Giles, who is the patron saint of Edinburgh, and was a very popular saint in the Middle Ages. |
Calton Hill
Calton Hill is the headquarters of the Scottish Government, which is based at St Andrew's House.
Calton Hill is a hill in central Edinburgh, Scotland, just to the east of the New Town. Views of, and from, the hill are often used in photographs and paintings of the city.
The hill also includes several iconic monuments and buildings: the National Monument, Nelson's Monument, the Dugald Stewart Monument, the New Parliament House (the Royal High School , the Robert Burns Monument, the Political Martyrs' Monument and the City Observatory.
